Our history
Backed by education and experience
MRI (UK) Ltd was founded by David Thomas, a former national sprint champion and member of the first GB Junior athletics team, whose experience underscored the importance of proper hydration. After his athletics career, he trained as a geologist, gaining insight into the mineral-rich waters of Utah’s Great Salt Lake, which is where our products originate. He later qualified as a nutritionist and chiropractor. This unique blend of scientific, athletic, and health expertise led David to establish MRI (UK) Ltd and launch the elete™ brand. David later co-founded SAS DNA Distribution with partner Annick, extending our range of 100% natural products to the EU. Each product is backed by proven provenance and designed to support physical and mental performance.

Our process
Stage 1
Understanding the minerals
Utah’s Great Salt Lake, the largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere, is exceptionally rich in naturally occurring minerals thanks to its high salinity. Its waters hold a concentrated balance of essential elements such as sodium, potassium, magnesium, and lithium - making it one of the world’s most unique natural sources for mineral extraction. This remarkable composition forms the foundation of MRI’s premium, science-backed mineral products.
Stage 2
Extracting the minerals
The extraction process begins with the collection of mineral-rich brine; water saturated with salts, from the lake. Using large pumps and canal systems, the brine is directed into expansive, shallow evaporation ponds. These ponds take advantage of Utah’s naturally arid climate, where high temperatures and low humidity accelerate the evaporation process, concentrating the dissolved minerals in the brine over time.
Stage 3
Harvesting the minerals
As the water evaporates, the minerals crystallise in stages based on their solubility. Sodium chloride precipitates first, followed by other valuable minerals like potassium and magnesium. This sequential crystallisation enables the targeted harvesting of specific mineral concentrates. These concentrated brines are then refined and used to create MRI’s ionic mineral supplements, which are valued for their natural origin and bioavailability.
